The physical interactions of silver ions with olefin compounds are known for few decades and have been used in various applications in separation science. However, the interaction with silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) is more complicated than a simple silver ion interaction with π electrons.

In this work we represent a novel approach of amino propyl TLC plates coated with Ag-NPs to produce secondary interactions of olefin analytes with the modified stationary phase. Changes in the retention factor of analytes can reveal the retention mechanism with Ag-NPs as a modified stationary phase. The results obtained using TLC will allow us to extend the Ag-NPs modification to HPLC stationary phases.
