Metrology of PorometryEgor Sobina, Ural Research Institute for Metrology, Ekaterinburg, Russia Characteristics of porosity and gas permeability: specific surface, specific volume, pore size, porosity (gas permeability) are the most important characteristics of the structure of porous and dispersed substances. Absorbing capacity of adsorbents, efficiency of solid catalysts and characteristics of filtering materials depend on sorption properties of substances. For centralized metrological assurance of the uniformity of measurements of porosity characteristics a complex of reference facilities was created in UNIIM to implement the following measurement methods: gas adsorption method [1], mercury porometry and the method of gas stationary filtration. This complex of reference facilities is used for the issue of reference materials of porous and non-porous substances (aluminium oxide, silicon oxide, carbon, zeolite, rock simulators), certified for the following characteristics: specific adsorption, specific surface, specific pore volume, average and prevailing pore diameters, porosity and gas permeability factor. As a result of successful participation of UNIIM in international comparisons 16 lines of calibration and measurement capabilities have been entered in BIPM data base. [2]. Currently the search and selection of the most stable matrices is carried out for the creation of reference materials on their basis to cover various points in the range of measurements of porosity characteristics. The research of metrological characteristics of reference facilities and the development of new reference materials will allow ensuring metrological traceability in practice Literature
