the 23th ANNUAL MEETING - CONFERENCE & EXHIBITION

21-22 JANUARY 2020, THE DAVID INTERCONTINENTAL HOTEL, TEL AVIV, ISRAEL

The case of the Pipe bomb "plumber"

Nora Rajs, Division of Identification and Forensic Science, Israel Police, Jerusalem, Israel (nora.rice@gmail.com)

The latent fingerprint laboratory in the Israel police handles many cases of explosive devices both criminal and terror related.  One of the most frequent types of exhibits, which are collected by the bomb squad in crime scenes, contains parts of plumbing systems that were used to build improvised explosive devices (IED). These parts are challenging surfaces that require a variety of methods for the development of fingerprints both because of their character and the process they went through. This case will show the forensic work behind the scenes that ultimately led to the capture of a violent terrorist-cell.
