Dramatically Improved Hydrocarbons Analysis Using GC-MS with Cold EI

GC-MS with Cold EI is based on interfacing a gas chromatograph (GC) and a mass spectrometer (MS) with a supersonic molecular beam (SMB), along with electron ionization of vibrationally cold sample compounds in the SMB in a contact-free fly-through ion source (hence the name Cold EI). Cold EI improves all the central GC-MS performance aspects including; the provision of enhanced molecular ions, highly improved compounds identification, significantly extended range of compounds that are amenable for analysis, much faster analysis, lower limits of detection, improved selectivity and uniform response.
Cold EI is the best mass spectrometry technology for hydrocarbons analysis, and it was applied and serves in a wide range of hydrocarbons-related applications, including:
1. Dramatically improved hydrocarbons mixtures and fuels analysis.
2. Isomer distribution analysis is enabled for fuels and oils properties optimization.
3. Isomer distribution analysis of ant waxes was explored for the investigation of ants communication pathways.
4. Arson investigations via isomer distribution analysis of samples for its source identification.
5. Polywax 850 was analyzed with large hydrocarbons up to C86.
6. CNC machine oil analysis for its content of heavy oils and triglycerides.
