Stem cell genomics and therapy for neurodegenerative disease
Professor of Developmental Neurobiology
Director of the Center for Regenerative Medicine
Department of Chemical Physiology
California Campus, USA
Dr. Jeanne Loring has held research and management positions at several biotechnology companies and currently is a Professor and the founding Director of the Center for Regenerative Medicine at The Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, California. Her research team primarily focuses on large-scale analysis of the genomics and epigenetics of human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs) and the application of genomics to stem cell therapy and understanding genetic disease. She has directed intensive laboratory courses in hPSC biology for 10 years and authored a comprehensive laboratory manual on hPSCs. She is dedicated to informing the public about biological and societal issues associated with stem cell research, including the ethics of stem cell generation and clinical use, the legal implications of stem cell patents, and public education about the dangers of unregulated stem cell treatments (“stem cell tourism”). Dr. Loring serves on both bioethics and scientific advisory boards.
